Nangamso Maponya
Investment Banking and Project Finance Professional, DBSA
Having started her career at the PIC, in 2005, Nangamso Maponya is an Investment Banking and Project Finance Professional at the DBSA, responsible for infrastructure projects within the Transport, Logistics and Water sectors. She has also participated in project financing and monitoring of projects in Broadband, Oil & Gas, Student accommodation, Maritime infrastructure as well through Fund of Funds and Private Equity investments.
A Unisa BCom (Hons) – Financial Management graduate, she now holds a master’s degree in Finance and Investments with London School of Business and Finance, an MSc – Finance with Geneva Business School and a Chartered Banker MBA, with the Bangor University, in Wales. She is also a Harvard Business School (Executive Education) graduate, having completed a General Management Programme in 2019.
In 2011, she participated in a South Africa – France government exchange programme involving South African young professionals across different sectors.
As part of her master’s degree, Nangamso completed a primary research on BRT Efficiencies, using Johannesburg’s Rea Vaya BRT as an area of study, the results of which contribute to her work and sector strategic direction at the DBSA.
In 2016, Ms Maponya represented DBSA in the Women in Transport Awards, in which the organisation won the Best Performing Organisation in Transport, mainly for the deals she had originated and executed; the banks contribution in the transport sector; and the involvement/ development of women professionals in executing its mandate.
She was then invited to a panel of judges for this Annual National Women in Transport Awards and to the Advisory Board of Annual Africa Transport Evolution Conference, as well as the Africa Rail Conference.
Nangamso is currently serving as an independent Chairperson of Sizwe Medical Fund Investment Committee and an Advisory member of the Tiger Brands ESD Fund Investment Committee. She is also a member of the Board and Audit & Risk Committee of Piotrans (Pty) Ltd, a Phase 1A Bus Operating Company of Rea Vaya BRT in Johannesburg.
She previously served on the Board of Trustees of the Gauteng Partnership Fund (GPF), was a member of their Fund-Raising Committee and a chairperson of the Audit and Risk Committee; as well as on the Board of Tafari Capital.
Victor Radebe
Founder, Mobility Centre for Africa and Mzansi Aerospace Technologies
Victor is the Founder of Mzansi Aerospace Technologies, a start-up entity that is focused on training, advisory and technology in the field of unmanned aircraft system (UAS). Victor is also the founder of Mobility Centre for Africa, a non-profit company that is dedicated to advocating for and researching smarter mobility solutions.
Having worked on some transportation and aviation-related projects like the Ekurhuleni and Durban aerotropolis projects, Victor believes that building efficiencies in global travel requires improvements of the first and last mile of air travel. In 2016 Victor partnered with the University of KZN and KZN Government to establish the Aerotropolis Institute Africa to develop the next generation of aerotropolis experts in the continent.
Victor is passionate about digital transformation (popularly referred to as the 4th Industrial Revolution) of key industries like the aviation and transportation. When Victor founded Mzansi, he thought the industry was only about aviation. Little did he realise that drone technology is in just about every major sector of the economy, which includes agriculture, mining, construction, security, etc. Victor serves as a co-convener of R & D Workstream of the ICASA’s 5G Forum, which is tasked with harnessing the IoT opportunities that this technology promises. Victor is also an executive committee member of the Commercial Unmanned Aircraft Association of Southern Africa (CUAASA), an industry body that is working with the SACAA and government to develop and promote the adoption of drone technology.
Victor studied B Comm at Wits, a Post-graduate Diploma in Management at UKZN and is has just finished his MBA studies at Wits Business School. As part of this MBA, Victor wrote his research article on the Effect of Shared Mobility on Private Car Ownership in South Africa.
Hiten Parmar
Director, uYilo
Hiten Parmar is an executive, thought leader and industry expert extending over 15 years in profession. He currently leads as Director of the national electric mobility programme in South Africa delivering to multi-stakeholder engagements across the public and private sector, both locally and internationally. His enabling, facilitating and mobilizing roles span across government lobbying; industry engagement; enterprise development and thought leadership. Hiten also serves as liaison for multiple sector related forums within South Africa, as well as internationally.
