Urban Mobility Expert, United Nations Human Settlements Programme
Tomaž Cigüt is an urban mobility expert at UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme).
He is a passionate environmentalist, working on tackling the climate crisis through the transformation of how cities are structured and how they function, and promoting a shift from personal vehicles to walking, cycling and the use of public transport. In his work he focuses on how the Sustainable Development Goals, the New Urban Agenda, and the 1.5°C stabilization pathway adopted in the Paris Agreement, can be followed-up upon and achieved through the changes made in the field of urban mobility. He strongly believes that efficient, convenient and affordable public transport increases the well-being of residents and reduces the inequality gap by enabling movement of the less advantaged and vulnerable groups (e.g. low-income earners, the elderly, the young, the disabled, and women with children), providing them with opportunities for personal growth and development.
