Transportation Planning Researcher at University of Capetown, South Africa
Owen is a researcher at the Centre for Transport Studies, Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Cape Town focusing on in Transportation Planning and Geographic Information Systems disciplines. His background training in Urban and Regional Planning and holds a postgraduate degree in Geographic Information Systems. He has won several awards from the Global Mastercard Foundation based on his academic excellence and community engagement on various urban development issues. He has close to 5 years’ professional and academic experience in the public transport planning industry in sub-Saharan Africa and partly in North America. He has worked in private consultancy at TIMCON Associates in transport planning development projects funded by both word bank and African Development bank focused on traffic management within Nairobi.
He is enthusiastic about sustainable mobility currently working on research in paratransit routes rationalization in Nairobi. He is focusing on harnessing the challenges and opportunities that transit data offer in sub-Saharan Africa and growing a deeper understanding of the paratransit industry. His non-academic experience is based on transiting to alternative energy sources for Africa which creates a framework for the adoption of sustainable mobility within African cities.
