Judith Owigar works at the intersection of women, mobility and technology. Judith Owigar works in UN-Habitat as a Smart Cities Consultant. In her capacity, she designs, plans, and implements projects and supports using her knowledge on ICT as a driver of urban prosperity. She is a co-founder of Akirachix Association, a non-profit that nurtures young women to create technological solutions and the founder of JuaKali Workforce Limited, an online micro-jobs platform that connects skilled manual labourers in Kenya’s informal sector with short-term employment. She also serves on the board of the Swedish Program for ICT in Developing Regions (SPIDER).
She has worked as a researcher with Clear Outcomes, Wuppertal Institute and the International Labour Organisation (ILO), and a team lead with International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and UN Women for the African Girls Can Code Initiative.
Judith is part of the East African Acumen Fellows program and an International Focus fellow. She has been recognized with the Anita Borg Change Agent Award by the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology. This was in recognition of the work that Akirachix has done to promote women and give them a voice using science and technology. Judith holds a Masters in Applied Computing and Degree in Computer Science from the University of Nairobi.
