Great news for the future of electric vehicles in South Africa. The fully electric Jaguar I-Pace was crowned Car of the Year on Tuesday April 21st.
The AutoTrader South African Car of the Year competition took place virtually in South Africa.
The competition is over 30 years old and has always been known as the most prestigious competition in the market.
For the first time ever, due to COVID-19, the competition was live streamed on AutoTrader’s YouTube channel. Hats off to AutoTrader for adapting quickly to the current situation by continuing the competition and to entertain its audience.
Not only was it the first time the competition was conducted online, it was also the first time that the competition has been won by Jaguar and the first time by an electric car! Signalling what car manufactures need to do to ensure that their products remain top of the list for consumers.
This announcement takes us straight back to EVRT Africa which took place in October 2019. 100 Road Trippers drove from Pretoria to Cape Town in 9 days using electric vehicles. The Jaguar I-Pace was part of the adventure and participated in the road trip to help raise awareness and educate the market about electric vehicles and smarter mobility.
After an informative and electrifying visit to Jeffreys Bay wind farm, it’s now time to recharge both body and car - some of them at least. Next #EVRTAfrica stop, one of #IPACE’s favourite places, Knysna. 📷: @CalvinFisher_ZApic.twitter.com/G95p3HOJRC
From the Road Trippers experience, and the interest from the press and media, Generation.e already knew that the Jaguar I-Pace was loved by the public.
